♦ Adhesive strip remover - VAS 6349-
Note
♦ The vertical and horizontal dimensions of lettering for the dif‐
ferent engines are identical.
♦ When fitting the lettering, observe the assembly instructions
as follows.

Fitting instructions
♦ Heat lettering or emblem with hot air blower - V.A.G 1416- be‐
fore removing.
♦ If the lettering or emblem is removed and reinstalled, only use
adhesive remover - D 002 000 10- to remove the adhesive
remains.
♦ Remove existing adhesive residue of adhesive tape using ad‐
hesive strip remover - VAS 6349- .
♦ Ensure that the adhesive surfaces are free of dust and grease.
♦ The lettering or emblem must be bonded in place immediately
after cleaning.
♦ Remove backing only immediately before installation.
♦ Working temperature is approx. 21 °C.

♦ Lettering or emblem cannot be removed without being dam‐
aged.

Removing
– Remove radiator grille -2-.
– Release the two retaining hooks -3- on the rear -arrow a-.
– Push emblem -1- slightly out of radiator grille -2-.
– Pull emblem -1- upwards out of radiator grille -2- -arrow b-.
Installing
– Push emblem -1- into radiator grille -2- until retaining hooks
-3- can be heard to engage.

Removing and installing brand emblem, vehicles with adaptive cruise con‐
trol unit - J428-
Removing
– Push seal -3- slightly to one side.
– Guide screwdriver -4- through opening -arrow a-.
– While doing this, push screwdriver -4- towards rear -arrow b-.
Screwdriver -4- is thereby guided onto locking device -5-.
– Release locking device -5- -arrow a-.
– Pull emblem -1- slightly towards front out of radiator grille
-arrow c-. The retaining hooks -6- will disengage autonomous‐
ly while doing this.
– Pull emblem -1- upwards out of radiator grille -2- -arrow d-.
Installing
– Push emblem -1- into radiator grille -2- until retaining hooks
-5 and 6- can be heard to engage.

Renewing lettering and badges at rear
Note
When fitting the lettering, observe the fitting notes ⇒ page 415
Removing
– Before removing badge -1-, heat it with hot air blower - V.A.G
1416- .
– Lift VW emblem off rear lid.
– Remove existing adhesive residues with adhesive remains re‐
mover - VAS 6349- .
Installing
– Thoroughly clean bonding surface -4- immediately with adhe‐
sive residue remover before sticking on.
•
Bonding surfaces -4- must be free of dust and grease and
there should be no adhesive residues.
– Pull off backing from adhesive tape on emblem -1-.

– Using centring pins -2-, position emblem -1- in indentations
-3- on rear lid.
– Press emblem down firmly.

Renewing lettering and badges on sides
9.5.1
Fitting instructions
♦ Before removing the lettering, heat it with a hot air blower -
V.A.G 1416- .
♦ If lettering is removed and reinstalled, only use adhesive re‐
mover - D 002 000 10- to remove the adhesive remains.
♦ Remove any glue residue from adhesive tape using adhesive
strip remover - VAS 6349- .
♦ Ensure that the adhesive surfaces are free of dust and grease.
♦ The lettering must be bonded in place immediately after clean‐
ing.
♦ Remove backing only immediately before installation.
♦ Working temperature is approx. 21 °C.
♦ The lettering cannot be removed intact.

– Carefully heat up lettering -1- or -2- with hot air blower - V.A.G
1416- .
– Carefully pull off lettering -1- or -2- from wing or door.
Installing
Install in reverse order, noting the following:
– Fitting notes ⇒ page 421 .
– Pull off backing.
– Position lettering -1- or -2- in swage line on wing or door and
press down firmly.

♦ Torque wrench - V.A.G 1783-
Removing
– Remove radiator grille ⇒ page 343 .
– Unscrew bolt -3- on rear of radiator grille -1-.
– Pull lettering -2- forwards out of radiator grille -1-.
Installing
