Removing and installing tail light in rear
lid
Note
♦ Removal and installation are described for the left side. The
removal and installation procedure for the right-hand side is
basically the same.
♦ If the event of a defective LED, the entire tail light cluster needs
to be renewed.
Removing
– Turn light switch to zero position.

Caution
Danger of damage to component surfaces.
♦ When using leverage tools, mask visible areas of the com‐
ponent with commercially available adhesive tape.
– If needed, apply a narrow screwdriver at opening on side.
– Press off cover -1- in -direction of arrow-.
– Release and disconnect electrical connector -1-.
– Unscrew nuts -2-.
– Swing left tail light cluster 2 - MX5- -3- outwards out of rear lid
opening.
Installing
Install in the reverse order of removal, observing the following:
Note
♦ Ensure that the gap between vehicle body and tail light hous‐
ing is properly sealed by the seal.
♦ Make sure that the connector is engaged firmly.
– Swing left tail light 2 - MX5- from the outside into rear lid open‐
ing.
– Align it properly to make contact at top and centre.
– Tighten nuts at top of tail light cluster 2 - MX5- and then at
bottom.
– Perform functional check.

Adjusting installation position of tail light
Note
♦ Installation position can only be corrected on tail light cluster
on body.
♦ The procedure for adjusting the installation position is descri‐
bed for the left side. The procedure on the right side is analo‐
gous.

– Turn light switch to zero position.
– Remove service flap in left luggage compartment side trim.

Loosen quick-release fastener -1- by / turn in

-direction of arrow-.
– Adjust installation position of tail light cluster by screwing ad‐
juster elements -2- in or out.
Note
Ensure that the tail light -3- lies flush against the surrounding
components.
– Turn quick-release fastener -1- to stop in opposite
-direction of arrow-, and lock it in place.
– Install service flap in left luggage compartment side trim.

Removing and installing tail light cluster
Note
Removal and installation are described for the left side. The re‐
moval and installation procedure for the right-hand side is basi‐
cally the same.
Removing
– Turn light switch to zero position.
– Remove service flap in luggage compartment side trim.
– Release and disconnect electrical connector -2-.
– Turn quick-release fastener -1- to stop in
-direction of arrow A-.
– Remove tail light cluster -3- in -direction of arrow B-.
Installing
Install in the reverse order of removal, observing the following:

Removing and installing turn signal bulb
4.10.1
Removing and installing turn signal
bulb, except for tail light clusters in dark
red
Removing
– Remove tail light cluster on body ⇒ page 153 .
– Release bulb carrier -1- in -direction of arrow A-.
– Pull bulb carrier -1- with rear left turn signal bulb - M6- out of
mounting on tail light cluster.
– Pull rear left turn signal bulb - M6- -2- straight in
-direction of arrow B- out of bulb carrier -1-.
Installing
Install in the reverse order of removal, observing the following:
Caution
Risk of damage to the bulb.
♦ Do not touch the glass part of the bulb with bare fingers.
Fingers leave traces of grease on the glass bulb, which
evaporate when the bulb is switched on and cause the
glass bulb to cloud over.
♦ Wear e.g. clean fabric gloves when inserting bulbs.
– Perform functional check.

Note
The turn signal bulbs are LEDs and are integrated in the tail light
