Risk of injury due to automatic engine starting in vehicles with
a start/stop system.

♦ In vehicles with an activated start/stop system (indicated
by a message in the dash panel insert), the engine may
start automatically.
♦ When working on the vehicle, make sure that the start/stop
system is deactivated (switch off the ignition; switch the
ignition on again if necessary).
– Disconnect battery earth cable with ignition switched on ⇒
Electrical system; Rep. gr. 27 ; Battery; Connecting and dis‐
connecting battery .
– Open bonnet.
– Unscrew bolts -1, 3-.
– Release fastener -arrow-, and detach cover -2-.
– If fitted, lay coolant hose -2- to one side.
– Release fasteners -arrows-, and detach top section of air duct
-1-.

– Unscrew bolt -arrow- on left and right.
– Unclip and detach lower section of air duct -1-.
– Unscrew bolts -2- and remove crash sensor -3- for front airbag
from lock carrier.

Before handling pyrotechnic components (e.g. separating the
electrical connector), the person handling them must ensure
that he/she is “electrically discharged”. To do this briefly touch,
for example, the door striker plate.
– Disconnect electrical connector -1-.
– Pull out connector lock -2-, press it down -arrow- and discon‐
nect connector -1- on crash sensor.
Installing

the electrical connector), the person handling them must
ensure that he/she is “electrically discharged”. To do this

– Push connector -1- onto crash sensor until it engages audibly
-arrow-.
– Press in connector lock -2- to lock the connector.
Continue installation in reverse order of removal observing the
following:

♦ Ensure that the electrical connectors are pushed fully onto
stop and engage audibly.
♦ Ensure that no wires are trapped.
WARNING
Battery must be connected with ignition switched on. If pyro‐
technic components (e.g. airbag, seat belt tensioners) are
repaired incorrectly, they may be accidentally ltkriggered after
the battery is connected. Ensure that nobody is in vehicle when
connecting battery.
– Connect battery earth cable with ignition switched on ⇒ Elec‐
trical system; Rep. gr. 27 ; Battery; Connecting and discon‐
necting battery .
WARNING
If the ignition has not yet been switched on after the battery has
been reconnected “warning lamps in dash panel insert are off”,
the ignition (key or button) must only be switched on while sit‐
ting on the driver seat and with the seat set to rearmost
position.
Note
If airbag warning lamp - K75- indicates a fault following installa‐
tion, event memory must be read, deleted and read again ⇒ Ve‐
hicle diagnostic tester.

– Remove front door trim ⇒ page 153 .
WARNING

– Pull out connector lock -2-, press it down -arrow- and discon‐
nect connector -1- on crash sensor.
– Release catch -2- and turn locking element -1- for crash sen‐
sor anti-clockwise by approx. 45° -arrow-.
– Detach side airbag crash sensor -3- from door and remove it.

Installing
WARNING
For the crash sensor (pressure sensor) to function properly, it
is vital to ensure that the door forms an effective seal.
– Ensure proper seating of seal -2-. Renew crash sensor if dam‐
aged or deformed.
– Attach side airbag crash sensor in door.
– Turn locking element -1- for crash sensor clockwise -arrow-.

Locking lug -3- must engage audibly.
