ding for bench seat/individual seats
Note
Removal and installation is described for the rear bench seat
(2/3). Follow same instructions for the rear bench seat (1/3) as
appropriate.

Removing
– Move front seats as far forwards as possible.
– Unclip guides -1- for ISOFIX child seat anchor (qty. 4) from
anchors ⇒ page 96 .
– Grasp with both hands on one side under frame of rear bench
seat (2/3).
– Using both hands, pull rear bench seat (2/3) -1- upwards with
a firm jerk -arrow A-. This will disengage wire hook -2- from
mounting grommet -3-.
– Repeat the procedure on the other side of the rear bench seat
(2/3) -arrow B-.

– Slightly lift up rear bench seat (2/3) -1- at front, and pull wire
frame -2- towards front out of rear seat frame -3- -arrows-.
– Remove rear bench seat from vehicle.
Installing
Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following:
– Remove the used mounting grommets from rear seat frame.
– Check rear seat frame in area of mounting grommets for de‐
formations.
– Repair any deformation on the frame using a plastic hammer.
Note
Slight remaining deformations are permissible.
– Push new mounting grommets in the rear seat frame until they
engage audibly.
– Fit rear bench seat and press wire hooks firmly into mounting
grommets.
– Ensure that the wire hooks are properly engaged in the mount‐
ing grommets.

Removing and installing rear seat back‐

Removing
– Remove rear seats ⇒ page 325 .
– Remove rear head restraint ⇒ page 324 .
Vehicles with rear side airbag
Note
It is recommended to make sketches or take photographs of how
the wires for the rear side airbag are routed. This guarantees that
everything is re-installed in its original position.
– Remove wire for remove side airbag from seat pan, and lay it
to one side.
Rear right seat backrest (1/3)
– Loosen spreader rivet (qty. 2) for gap cover on backrest cover
on underside of seat pan.
– On vehicles with rear side airbag, thread wire for side airbag
out of gap cover on backrest cover.
– Using a screwdriver, lever fastening strip -2- for backrest cover
all round off backrest frame -3- -arrow-.
– On vehicles with rear side airbag, detach »airbag belt« -2- on
backrest cover -1- from backrest frame.
– To do this, guide strip -3- out of backrest frame.

– Thread out backrest cover -1- with backrest padding at head
restraint guides.
– Remove backrest cover -1- with backrest padding from back‐
rest frame, taking the wire for the rear side airbag into account.
Rear left seat backrest (2/3)
– Remove trim for locking mechanism ⇒ page 329 .
– Remove rear centre belt guide ⇒ page 81 .
– Remove intermediate padding ⇒ page 369 .
– Loosen spreader rivets (qty. 4) for gap cover on backrest cover
on underside of seat pan.
– On vehicles with rear side airbag, thread wire for side airbag
out of gap cover on backrest cover.

– On vehicles with rear side airbag, detach »airbag belt« -2- on

Installing
Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following:
– On vehicles with rear side airbag, secure »airbag belt« -2- on
cover -1- to backrest frame.
– To do this, guide strip -3- into slot in backrest frame.
– Fold clamping profile -1- 90° inwards -arrow A-.
– Attach fastening strips at side into grooves in backrest frame
-arrow B-.
– Attach fastening strip in are of head restraints to backrest
frame.

Removing and installing cover and pad‐
ding of load-through hatch
Removing
– Remove through-loading aperture ⇒ page 331 .
– Remove rear head restraint ⇒ page 324 .
– Remove trim for locking mechanism ⇒ page 329 .
– On vehicles with centre armrest, remove centre armrest and
centre armrest bracket from load-through hatch ⇒ page 332 .
– Using a screwdriver, lever fastening strip -2- for cover -1- all
round off load-through hatch -3- -arrow-.
– Thread out cover -1- with padding at head restraint guide.
– Remove cover -1- with padding from frame of load-through
hatch.
Installing
Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following:

– Using pliers, cut through all upholstery clips -1- on underside
of bench seat. Fold back cover -2- at sides of padding -3-.

– Cut through any upholstery clips -1- in the padding channels.
– Detach seat cover -3- from seat padding -2-.
Caution
Do not damage seat cover.
♦ Do not pull on seat cover. Otherwise the seat cover might

be torn apart.
Installing
Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following:
– After installation, check that there are no creases in the seat
cover.

Removing
– Remove backrest cover with backrest cushion from rear seat
backrest ⇒ page 366 .
– Pull backrest cover -3- as far as possible off backrest padding
-2-.
– Cut through upholstery clips -1- using pliers.
Installing
Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following:
– After installation, check that there are no creases in the seat
cover.

Removing
– Separate seat cover from seat padding ⇒ page 370 .
– Cut through wire -5- immediately at old heater element -2-.
Note
The old seat heating elements remain fitted on the seat padding
-1- and the new heating elements are bonded in onto the old ones.
Installation
Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following:
– Thread electrical wire -5- through cable duct.
– Align new heater element -2- on seat padding -1-. Do not pull
off the backing film when doing this.
– Pull off backing film -4- from adhesive tape -3- in succession.
Ensure that heater element is not damaged.
– Bond in new heating elements so that they coincide with the
old ones and are free of creases.
– Place connections of the individual heating elements on bot‐
tom of recesses.

ing element

Removing
– Separate backrest cover from backrest padding ⇒ page 355 .
– Cut through wire -5- immediately at old heater element -2-.
Note
The old seat heating elements remain fitted on the seat padding
-1- and the new heating elements are bonded in onto the old ones.
Installation
Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following:
– Thread wire -3- through cable guide.
– Align heating element -2- on padding -1-. Do not pull off back‐
ing film when doing this.
– Pull protective films -4- one after other off heater elements.
Make sure not to damage heater elements -2-.
– Bond in new heating elements so that they coincide with the
old ones and are free of creases.
– Place connections of the individual heating elements on bot‐
tom of recesses.
