– Unscrew bolt -2- and remove centre crash sensor for pedes‐
trian protection - G693- -item 3- from bumper.
WARNING
Risk of injury due to unintentional triggering!
♦ Before handling pyrotechnic components (e.g. separating
the electrical connector), the person handling them must
ensure that he/she is “electrically discharged”. To do this
briefly touch, for example, the door striker plate.
– Separate electrical connector -1- while holding down connec‐
tor locking mechanism.
Installing
WARNING
♦ Observe safety precautions when working on pyrotechnic
components ⇒ page 3 .
♦ Before handling pyrotechnic components (e.g. connecting
the electrical connector), the person handling them must
ensure that he/she is “electrically discharged”. To do this
briefly touch, for example, the door striker plate.
– Fit connector to crash sensor until it engages audibly.
Continue installation in reverse order of removal observing the
following:
Note
♦ Ensure that the electrical connectors are pushed fully onto
stop and engage audibly.
♦ Ensure that no wires are trapped.
WARNING
Risk of accidental triggering after incorrect repair of pyrotech‐
nical components (for example airbag, belt tensioner) when
battery is connected.
♦ Battery must be connected with ignition switched on.
♦ For your own safety, stay out of the airbag deployment
areas when connecting the battery and keep a safe dis‐
tance away from the belt tensioners/belts.
♦ Ensure, at the time of connecting the battery, that no other
persons are inside the vehicle.
– Connect battery earth cable with ignition switched on ⇒ Elec‐

Removing
– Disconnect battery earth cable with ignition switched on ⇒
Electrical system; Rep. gr. 27 ; Battery; Connecting and dis‐
connecting battery .
– Remove bumper cover ⇒ General body repairs, exterior; Rep.
gr. 63 ; Front bumper; Removing and installing bumper cover .
– Unscrew bolt -3- and remove driver side crash sensor for pe‐
destrian protection - G570- / front passenger side crash sensor
for pedestrian protection - G571- -1- from bumper.
– Disconnect electrical connector -2-.
WARNING
Before handling pyrotechnic components (e.g. separating the
electrical connector), the person handling them must ensure
that he/she is “electrically discharged”. To do this briefly touch,
for example, the door striker plate.
– Pull out connector lock -2-, press it down -arrow- and discon‐
nect connector -1- on crash sensor.

– Press in connector lock -2- to lock the connector.
Continue installation in reverse order of removal observing the

trian protection trigger, pressing release mechanism to do so.
– Remove clip -2- using a screwdriver.
– Unscrew nut -4-.
– Detach pedestrian protection trigger -1- from hinge pin.
Installing
– Push trigger for pedestrian protection -1- completely onto
hinge pin.

Observe correct installation position. A collision with the locat‐
ing element -5- is not permissible.
– Push trigger for pedestrian protection -1- completely onto
hinge pin.
– Secure trigger for pedestrian protection -1- with nut -4- and clip
-2-.
