Removing
– Remove front seat ⇒ page 275 .
– Secure seat on seat repair stand ⇒ page 254 .
– Remove seat trim on tunnel side ⇒ page 285 .
– Remove backrest adjustment ⇒ page 305 .
– Remove handle for seat height adjustment ⇒ page 284 .

– Release locking lugs -arrows- on carrier from seat depth ad‐

justment using removal wedge - 3409- .
– Pull off carrier -1- with seat padding and seat cover for seat
depth adjustment upwards and towards front.
– Detach tabs -arrows- from seat depth adjustment -2-.
– Fold back carrier with seat padding and seat cover upwards.
– To do this, pull off carrier -1- with seat padding and seat cover
for seat depth adjustment upwards and simultaneously to‐
wards front.
Caution
Risk of damage to locking lugs.
♦ Proceed with great care when unclipping and clipping in.
– Place carrier -2- with seat padding and seat cover for seat
depth adjustment onto front seat.
Note
For reasons of clarity, the lower seat pan frame is not shown.
– Detach seat cover retaining strips -1- and -4-.
– Remove fastening strip -3- of seat cover from seat depth ad‐
justment.
– To do this, pull fastening strip towards front.
Continued for all vehicles
– Detach fastening strips -1- and -2- using front end hook -

rear.
– Use removal wedge - 3409- for this.
– Open upholstery clips -5- on backside.
– Pull backrest cover -1- further upwards in order to gain access
to the upholstery clips -5-.
Note
The uppermost retaining clips need not be removed.
– Pull backrest cover on backside upwards up to cross bar -2-.
– Detach cross bar on left and right from seat frame -arrows-.
– On heated front seats, disconnect and guide out wiring har‐
ness below seat frame.
– Thread out backrest cover and backrest padding on head re‐
straint locking mechanism.
– Remove backrest cover and backrest padding from backrest.

Removing and installing seat heating el‐
ement -Z6- / -Z8-
Removing
– Separate seat cover from seat padding ⇒ page 352 .
– Cut through wire -5- immediately at old heater element -2-.
Note

The old seat heating elements remain fitted on the seat padding
-1- and the new heating elements are bonded in onto the old ones.
Installation
Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following:
– Thread electrical wire -5- through cable duct.
– Align new heater element -2- on seat padding -1-. Do not pull
off the backing film when doing this.
– Pull off backing film -4- from adhesive tape -3- in succession.
Ensure that heater element is not damaged.
– Bond in new heating elements so that they coincide with the
old ones and are free of creases.
– Place connections of the individual heating elements on bot‐
tom of recesses.

Removing and installing backrest heat‐
ing element -Z7- / -Z9-
Removing
– Separate backrest cover from backrest padding ⇒ page 355 .
– Cut through wire -5- immediately at old heater element -2-.
Note
The old seat heating elements remain fitted on the seat padding
-1- and the new heating elements are bonded in onto the old ones.
Installation
Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following:
– Thread wire -3- through cable guide.
– Align heating element -2- on padding -1-. Do not pull off back‐
ing film when doing this.
– Pull protective films -4- one after other off heater elements.
Make sure not to damage heater elements -2-.
– Bond in new heating elements so that they coincide with the
old ones and are free of creases.
– Place connections of the individual heating elements on bot‐
tom of recesses.
