Note  
Removal and installation is described for the dash panel end cov‐  
er on driver side. Follow same instructions for the front passenger  
side as appropriate.

♦ Removal wedge - 3409-  
Removing  
– Using removal wedge - 3409- , release dash panel end cover  
-1- in area of fasteners -arrows-.  
– If fitted, disconnect connector on key operated switch to de‐  
activate front passenger side airbag - E224- .  
– Pull cover towards rear out of A-pillar gap cover and remove  
it.  
Installing  
Continue installation in reverse order of removal, observing the  
following:  
Note  
Before installing, check all fasteners for damage and renew if  
necessary.

– Release trim panel clip -2- using removal wedge - 3409-  
-arrows-.  
– Detach trim panel from dash panel -arrow B-.  
Installing  
Continue installation in reverse order of removal, observing the  
following:

Before installing, check all fasteners for damage and renew if  
necessary.

Removing and installing light switch trim  
Special tools and workshop equipment required  
♦ Torque wrench - V.A.G 1783-  
Removing  
– Remove rotary light switch - EX1- β‡’ Electrical system; Rep.  
gr. 96 ; Controls; Overview of fitting locations - controls in dash  
panel .  
– Unscrew bolt -2-.  
– Carefully remove light switch trim -1- towards rear from dash  
panel.  
– If fitted, disconnect connector from headlight range control  
regulator - E102- .  
Installing  
Continue installation in reverse order of removal, observing the  
following:

necessary.

Removing

– Remove trim of dash panel insert β‡’ page 189 .  
– Carefully unclip mounting frame -1- from catches -2- in dash  
panel using removal wedge - 3409- .  
Installing  
Continue installation in reverse order of removal, observing the  
following:

Before installing, check all fasteners for damage and renew if  
necessary.

♦ Torque wrench - V.A.G 1783-  
Removing  
– Remove centre console β‡’ page 50 .  
– Move front seats as far back as possible.  
– Disconnect battery earth cable β‡’ Electrical system; Rep. gr.  
27 ; Battery; Disconnecting and connecting battery .  
– Remove airbag unit with igniter β‡’ page 104 .

fitted, for temperature sensor on left and right.

– Unscrew bolt -2- securing dash panel -1- to central tube.  
– Unscrew bolts -4- on left side for securing dash panel -1-.  
– Unscrew bolts -3- on right side for securing dash panel -1-.

– Unscrew bolt -2- securing dash panel -1-.  
– For LHD vehicles, unscrew bolt -3- securing dash panel -1-.  
Note  
On RHD vehicles, the bolt -3- for securing the dash panel -1- is not fitted.  
– Unscrew the three bolts -4- securing dash panel -1- to central  
tube in middle.

– Unscrew bolt -2- securing dash panel -1-.

– Lift up dash panel -1- until locating lugs on left and right  
-arrow A- are released from mountings.  
– Pull dash panel -1- out of the three mountings -2- at transition  
to windscreen.

Note  
The help of a second mechanic is required to remove the dash panel.  
– Remove dash panel -1- from dash panel central tube -2-.  
– Disconnect connectors and lay wiring harnesses on dash pan‐  
el to one side.  
– Carefully remove dash panel from vehicle interior and place it  
on a soft surface.  
Installing  
Note  
Before installing, check all fasteners for damage and renew if  
necessary.

Caution

To prevent damage to the air duct, the brackets of the β€œhead-  
up display” on the central tube for dash panel should be  
masked off.  
– Before installing dash panel -1-, check whether mountings  
-2- are firmly engaged in body.  
– With the aid of a 2nd mechanic push dash panel -1- into the  
three mountings -2- at transition to windscreen.  
– Insert dash panel with locating lugs on left and right  
-arrow A- exactly into the corresponding holes.

– Secure dash panel -1- to central tube using bolt -2-.  
– On left side, secure dash panel -1- to central tube using two  
bolts -4-.  
– On right side, secure dash panel -1- to central tube using two  
bolts -3-.

– On left side, secure dash panel -1- to central tube with bolt  
-2-.  
– On LHD vehicles, secure dash panel -1- to central tube on right  
side using bolt -3-.  
Note  
On RHD vehicles, the bolt -3- for securing the dash panel -1- is not fitted.  
– At centre, secure dash panel -1- to central tube using three  
bolts -4-.
