Removing  
– Open centre storage compartment, and remove spreader clip  
-1-.  
– Using removal wedge - 3409- , carefully unclip centre storage  
compartment -2- from dash panel.  
Installing  
Install in reverse order, noting the following:

Before installing, check all fasteners for damage and renew if necessary.

Removing  
– Unscrew bolt -3-.  
– Pull driver side footwell cover -1- out of retainer -2- and remove  
it.  
Installing  
Install in reverse order, noting the following:

Note

Removing and installing driver side storage compartment  
Removing  
– Open driver side storage compartment -1- in  
-direction of arrow-.  
– Release driver side storage compartment -1- from upper  
catches and remove it at bottom from dash panel -2-.  
Installing  
Install in reverse order, noting the following:

Removing and installing dash panel  
cover on driver side  
Special tools and workshop equipment required  
♦ Torque wrench - V.A.G 1783-  
Removing  
– Remove rotary light switch - EX1- β‡’ Electrical system; Rep.  
gr. 96 ; Controls; Overview of fitting locations - controls in dash  
panel .  
– Unscrew bolt -3- of trim -2- for rotary light switch.  
– Detach trim -2- from dash panel cover -1-, and disconnect all  
electrical connectors.  
– Remove storage compartment in dash panel cover on driver  
side β‡’ page 26 .  
– Remove dash panel end cover on driver side β‡’ page 172 .

– Unscrew 3 bolts -1-.  
– Unclip dash panel cover on driver side -2- from dash panel,  
and remove it.  
Installing  
Install in reverse order, noting the following:

Before installing, check all fasteners for damage and renew if  
necessary.  
Specified torque

Removing and installing upper steering

column trim  
Special tools and workshop equipment required  
♦ Removal wedge - 3409-  
Removing  
– Release locking lever of steering wheel positioner.  
– Pull out steering wheel completely, push it down and fix it in  
place.  
– Using removal wedge - 3409- , release upper steering column  
trim -2- from mountings of lower steering column trim -3-. To  
do this, turn steering wheel accordingly.  
– If necessary, detach steering column trim from gap cover -1-.  
Installing  
Install in reverse order, noting the following:
