– Unscrew bolt -3- of trim -2- for rotary light switch.
– Detach trim -2- from dash panel cover -1-, and disconnect all
electrical connectors.
– Remove storage compartment in dash panel cover on driver

Removing
– Release locking lever of steering wheel positioner.
– Pull out steering wheel completely, push it down and fix it in
place.
– Using removal wedge - 3409- , release upper steering column
trim -2- from mountings of lower steering column trim -3-. To
do this, turn steering wheel accordingly.
– If necessary, detach steering column trim from gap cover -1-.
Installing
Install in reverse order, noting the following:

turn steering wheel accordingly.

– Release front passenger side footwell cover -2- from dash
panel and centre console and remove it.

Note
♦ Before installing, check all fasteners for damage and renew if

♦ On vehicles with a loudspeaker in the front passenger footwell,
there is a corresponding aperture in the footwell cover. During
installation, make sure that the footwell cover is correctly seat‐
ed on the loudspeaker trim.

Removing and installing control unit 1 for information elec‐
tronics - J794- .
– Unscrew bolts -2- for glove compartment -1- in footwell.
– Open glove compartment cover, and unscrew 4 bolts -2-.
– Unclip glove compartment from dash panel and pull it out until
glove compartment cooling hose can be accessed.

ment -1-.
– Disconnect any connectors from glove compartment, move

Service position for glove compartment
lid
Moving to service position
•
Glove compartment cover -2- opened.
– Push limit stops -1- for glove compartment lid -2- upwards
-arrows A-.
– Carefully open glove compartment cover -2- by approx. an‐
other 5 cm -arrow B-.
Caution
Do not open further than another 5 cm, because otherwise the
toothed rack of the braking element will be pulled out of the
damper element.
– Move/release rack -1- in -direction of arrow- and remove it
from glove compartment lid.
Caution
If the toothed rack -1- is pulled out of the damper element when
the “glove compartment cover is moved to the service posi‐
tion”, carefully fit it back into the damper element.
Note
If the braking element falls out of the damper element when the
“glove compartment cover is moved to the service position”, fit it
back into the damper element in the correct installation position.
Moving from service position
– Close glove compartment lid slowly.
– Close glove compartment lid further and engage it behind limit
stops.
