Removing
WARNING

– Disconnect battery earth cable with ignition switched on ⇒
Electrical system; Rep. gr. 27 ; Battery; Connecting and dis‐
connecting battery .
Note
The front side airbag with igniter can be removed and installed
with seat and backrest installed.
– Detach cover and backrest padding and fold back until front
side airbag with igniter can be removed ⇒ page 348 .
WARNING
Risk of injury due to unintentional triggering!
♦ Before handling pyrotechnic components (e.g. separating
the electrical connector), the person handling them must
ensure that he/she is “electrically discharged”. To do this
briefly touch, for example, the door striker plate.

– Release connector lock -2- using small screwdriver -arrow-.
– Separate electrical connector -1- on igniter for side airbag.

– Unscrew bolt -4-.
– Unhook side airbag -1- with hook -2- from backrest frame -3-.
Installing
Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following:
If the backrest of the front passenger seat can be folded com‐
pletely, use “closer for zip fastener” allocation ⇒ Electronic parts
catalogue .
WARNING
Battery must be connected with ignition switched on. If pyro‐
technic components (e.g. airbag, seat belt tensioners) are
repaired incorrectly, they may be accidentally triggered after
the battery is connected. Ensure that nobody is in vehicle when
connecting battery.
– Connect battery earth cable with ignition switched on ⇒ Elec‐
trical system; Rep. gr. 27 ; Battery; Connecting and discon‐
necting battery .
WARNING
If the ignition has not yet been switched on after the battery has
been reconnected “warning lamps in dash panel insert are off”,
the ignition (key or button) must only be switched on while sit‐
ting on the driver seat and with the seat set to rearmost
position.

Note
If airbag warning lamp - K75- indicates a fault following installa‐
tion, event memory must be read, deleted and then read again

– Push side airbag -2- upwards and remove it from backrest
frame -4-.
Installing
Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following:
