– Release and pull off connectors -2- and -5-.
– Remove spreader rivet -1-.
– Unscrew bolt -4- and remove belt inertia reel -3- from mount‐
ing.

♦ Before handling pyrotechnic components (e.g. connecting
the electrical connector), the person handling them must
ensure that he/she is “electrically discharged”. To do this

Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following:
– If parts of the belt system are removed because of an accident,
the belt system bolts must be renewed.
Note
Ensure that the electrical connectors are pushed fully onto stop
and engage audibly.
– Fit belt inertia reel ensuring that anti-rotation tab -1- engages
in mounting -2- -arrow- and tighten bolt.

– Connect connector -1- to igniter -arrow A-.
– Press in connector lock -2- -arrow B-. Doing so, the connector
will be fully inserted into igniter and locked at the same time.
WARNING
Battery must be connected with ignition switched on. If pyro‐
technic components (e.g. airbag, seat belt tensioners) are
repaired incorrectly, they may be accidentally triggered after
the battery is connected. Ensure that nobody is in vehicle when
connecting battery.
– Connect battery earth cable with ignition switched on ⇒ Elec‐
trical system; Rep. gr. 27 ; Battery; Connecting and discon‐
necting battery .
WARNING
If the ignition has not yet been switched on after the battery has
been reconnected “warning lamps in dash panel insert are off”,

Installing

– Pull belt height adjuster -2- upwards off B-pillar.
Installing
Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following:
– If parts of the belt system are removed because of an accident,
the belt system bolts must be renewed.

Note
♦ As a replacement part, belt height adjusters always come with
slider for belt height adjuster set to lowest position (assembly
position).
♦ If previously removed belt height adjusters are reinstalled,
they must be moved to lowest position for installation (assem‐
bly position).
– Attach belt height adjuster -2- on B-pillar.
– Tighten bolt -3-.
– Install belt guide fitting -1-, and tighten bolt -4-.
Note
The belt height adjuster button must not be pressed when instal‐
ling the B-pillar trim.
– Initially, fit B-pillar trim -3- upwards into mounting in roof.
•
Mounting -2- of sliding part on B-pillar trim must engage in re‐
taining pin -1- on belt height adjuster -arrow-.
– If a new belt height adjuster is installed, firmly push sliding part
upwards after B-pillar trim has been installed.

This will release the installation guard of the belt height ad‐
juster.
– Check the following functions:

Belt height adjuster must engage audibly in each of the 3 pos‐
sible positions (including top position).
Belt height adjuster button must return to top position after any
operation.
Belt guide fitting must move to vertical position or operated
position on its own.
If one of the requirements is not fulfilled, check belt height adjuster
for correct installation and renew it if necessary.
