– Remove B-pillar trims β‡’ page 220 .  
– Remove front belt end fitting β‡’ page 89 .  
– Remove front belt guide β‡’ page 88 .  
– Unscrew bolt -1-.  
– Remove belt guide fitting -2- with belt webbing.  
WARNING  
Before handling pyrotechnic components (e.g. separating the  
electrical connector), the person handling them must ensure  
that he/she is β€œelectrically discharged”. To do this briefly touch,  
for example, the door striker plate.  
Vehicles without reversible belt tensioner  
– Using a small screwdriver, release connector locking device  
-arrow-, and pull off connector for seat belt tensioner igniter 1  
-1-.  
– Unscrew bolt -3- and remove belt inertia reel -2- from mount‐  
ing.

Vehicles with reversible belt tensioner  
– Release and pull off connectors -2- and -5-.  
– Remove spreader rivet -1-.  
– Unscrew bolt -4- and remove belt inertia reel -3- from mount‐  
ing.  
Installing  
WARNING  
♦ Observe safety instructions for pyrotechnic components  
β‡’ page 3 .  
♦ Before handling pyrotechnic components (e.g. connecting  
the electrical connector), the person handling them must  
ensure that he/she is β€œelectrically discharged”. To do this  
briefly touch, for example, the door striker plate.  
Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following:  
– If parts of the belt system are removed because of an accident,  
the belt system bolts must be renewed.  
Note  
Ensure that the electrical connectors are pushed fully onto stop  
and engage audibly.  
– Fit belt inertia reel ensuring that anti-rotation tab -1- engages  
in mounting -2- -arrow- and tighten bolt.

– Connect connector -1- to igniter -arrow A-.  
– Press in connector lock -2- -arrow B-. Doing so, the connector  
will be fully inserted into igniter and locked at the same time.  
WARNING  
Battery must be connected with ignition switched on. If pyro‐  
technic components (e.g. airbag, seat belt tensioners) are  
repaired incorrectly, they may be accidentally triggered after  
the battery is connected. Ensure that nobody is in vehicle when  
connecting battery.  
– Connect battery earth cable with ignition switched on β‡’ Elec‐  
trical system; Rep. gr. 27 ; Battery; Connecting and discon‐  
necting battery .  
WARNING  
If the ignition has not yet been switched on after the battery has  
been reconnected β€œwarning lamps in dash panel insert are off”,  
the ignition (key or button) must only be switched on while sit‐  
ting on the driver seat and with the seat set to rearmost  
position.

On vehicles with reversible belt tensioner, a test procedure must  
be performed in β‡’ Guided Fault Finding after the seat belt has

Installing

– Fit belt inertia reel ensuring that anti-rotation tab -1- engages  
in mounting -2- -arrow- and tighten bolt.  
WARNING  
Risk of injury due to accidental triggering of pyrotechnical com‐  
ponents after incorrect repair (e.g. airbag, belt tensioner) when  
battery is connected.  
♦ Battery must be connected with ignition switched on.  
♦ Ensure, at the time of connecting the battery, that no other  
persons are inside the vehicle.  
– Connect battery earth cable with ignition switched on β‡’ Elec‐  
trical system; Rep. gr. 27 ; Battery; Connecting and discon‐  
necting battery .  
WARNING  
If the ignition has not yet been switched onlakfter the battery has  
been reconnected β€œwarning lamps in dash panel insert are off”,  
the ignition (key or button) must only be switched on while sit‐  
ting on the driver seat and with the seat set to rearmost

Removing and installing rear centre  
three-point seat belt  
Removing  
– Remove backrest cover with backrest padding from wide rear  
seat backrest (2/3) β‡’ page 366 .  
– Remove rear centre belt end anchor β‡’ page 90 .  
– Remove nuts -1-.  
– Detach three-point seat belt -2- and remove it.  
– Guide out belt webbing -3-.  
Installing  
– If parts of the belt system are removed because of an accident,  
the belt system securing bolts must be renewed.  
– Fit three-point seat belt ensuring that anti-rotation tab engages  
in mounting and tighten nut.  
Continue installation in reverse order of removal.

Removing  
– Remove upper B-pillar trim β‡’ page 220 .

– Press together clip on belt guide -1- -arrows a-.  
– At the same time detach belt guide -1- downwards from body  
-arrow b-.  
– With clip pressed together, pull out belt guide -1- upwards  
-arrow c-.  
– Thread out belt webbing, and remove belt guide -1-.  
Installing  
Install in reverse order of removal.  
Note  
Observe correct installation position of the belt guide when in‐  
stalling.

Front seat must be positioned in foremost and highest posi‐  
tion.  
– Remove sill panel moulding at front β‡’ page 210 .  
– Unscrew bolt -1- and release belt end fitting -2- from body.  
Installing  
Install in reverse order of removal.

– Remove rear sill panel moulding β‡’ page 210 .  
– Unscrew bolt -1- and release belt end fitting -2- from body.  
Installing

– Remove rear seat (2/3) β‡’ page 325 .  
– Unscrew bolt -2- on belt end fitting -1-.

– Thread belt webbing with belt end anchor out of rear seat  
frame -arrow-.  
Installing

The belt end anchor -1- must rest against the locating element  
on the rear seat frame.  
– Tighten bolt -2- on belt end fitting -1-.

Removing and installing belt height ad‐  
juster  
Removing  
– Press belt height adjuster button and move slider of belt height  
adjuster to lowest position.  
– Detach upper B-pillar trim β‡’ page 220 .  
– Place B-pillar trim with belt webbing attached to one side.

– Unscrew bolt -4-.  
– Remove belt guide fitting -1- with belt webbing.  
– Unscrew bolt -3-.  
– Pull belt height adjuster -2- upwards off B-pillar.  
Installing  
Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following:  
– If parts of the belt system are removed because of an accident,  
the belt system bolts must be renewed.

Note  
♦ As a replacement part, belt height adjusters always come with  
slider for belt height adjuster set to lowest position (assembly  
position).  
♦ If previously removed belt height adjusters are reinstalled,  
they must be moved to lowest position for installation (assem‐  
bly position).  
– Attach belt height adjuster -2- on B-pillar.  
– Tighten bolt -3-.  
– Install belt guide fitting -1-, and tighten bolt -4-.  
Note  
The belt height adjuster button must not be pressed when instal‐  
ling the B-pillar trim.  
– Initially, fit B-pillar trim -3- upwards into mounting in roof.

Mounting -2- of sliding part on B-pillar trim must engage in re‐  
taining pin -1- on belt height adjuster -arrow-.  
– If a new belt height adjuster is installed, firmly push sliding part  
upwards after B-pillar trim has been installed.

This will release the installation guard of the belt height ad‐  
juster.  
– Check the following functions:

Belt height adjuster must engage audibly in each of the 3 pos‐  
sible positions (including top position).  
Belt height adjuster button must return to top position after any  
operation.  
Belt guide fitting must move to vertical position or operated  
position on its own.  
If one of the requirements is not fulfilled, check belt height adjuster  
for correct installation and renew it if necessary.
