Removing  
Note  
Fit all cable ties in the original position when installing.  
– Remove connector for Lambda probe 1 after catalytic con‐  
verter -GX7- from retainer, disconnect it, and lay electrical  
wires to one side.  
– Loosen clamp -1- for catalytic converter -2-, and push clamp  
onto turbocharger.

– Remove middle underbody cladding β‡’ General body repairs,

installing underbody cladding.  
– Release retainers -arrows- for heat shield -1-.  
– Loosen clamp -2- and push to rear.  
– Lower front silencer -3- slightly and remove heat shield -1-.  
– Push clamp -2- back onto both exhaust pipes.  
Vehicles with front-wheel drive:  
– Unscrew bolts -arrows-.  
– Remove heat shield for right drive shaft.

– Remove right wheel and front part of right wheel housing  
liner/entire right wheel housing liner β‡’ General body repairs,  
exterior; Rep. gr. 66; Wheel housing liner; Removing and  
installing front wheel housing liner.  
– Lower subframe β‡’ Running gear, axles, steering; Rep.  
gr. 40; Subframe; Lowering subframe.  
– Unscrew bolts -arrows- and remove heat shield -1-.  
Vehicles with all-wheel drive:  
– Remove right wheel and front part of right wheel housing  
liner/entire right wheel housing liner β‡’ General body repairs,  
exterior; Rep. gr. 66; Wheel housing liner; Removing and  
installing front wheel housing liner.  
– Unscrew bolts -arrows- and remove heat shield -1-.  
– Unscrew bolts -A- and -B- from bevel box and remove heat  
shield -1-.

– Mark position of propshaft relative to bevel box flange.  
– Counterhold at rear final drive when loosening or tightening  
propshaft.  
– Unbolt front of propshaft from bevel box -arrows-.

– When pulling off or pushing on propshaft, always ensure that  
sleeve -arrow- is not damaged.  
– Fit engine support -T10533- between subframe and gear‐  
box; tighten bolts hand-tight.  
♦ Bolt -3- = original pendulum support bolt  
♦ Screw a bolt M8 x 30 mm -1- fitted with a washer -2- into  
threaded hole in noise insulation.  
♦ -A- thin end  
♦ -B- thick end  
– Using engine support -T10533-, push engine as far forwards  
as possible.  
– Pull propshaft off bevel box, and lay it to left side.  
– Mask off propshaft in front area or cover it with a cloth to  
prevent any damage to surface protection.  
– Remove lambda probe 1 after catalytic converter -GX7- β‡’  
page 499 .

– If fitted, remove cross piece -1-.  
– Unscrew nuts -2-.  
Note  
♦ Risk of damage to the flexible joint.  
♦ Do not allow the flexible joint to kink by more than 10Β°. Do  
not damage wire mesh on decoupling element.  
– Unscrew bolts -arrows-.  
Golf, Passat, Tiguan, Arteon  
– Loosen clamp -arrow-, and push it to rear. When doing this,  
have a second mechanic hold the exhaust pipe.  
– Detach catalytic converter with front exhaust pipe.

Sharan  
– Separate catalytic converter/silencer connection on flange  
-arrows-. When doing this, have a second mechanic hold the  
exhaust pipe.  
– Detach catalytic converter with front exhaust pipe.  
Installing  
– Insert screwdriver -2- into recess -arrow- on turbocharger,  
and lever out seal -1-.  
– Insert new seal.  
– Fit screw-type clip in position shown to the turbocharger.  
– Fit catalytic converter to turbocharger. Attach screw-type clip  
of catalytic converter loosely without tightening it.  
– Tighten nuts and screw-type clip:
