valve -N276- is switched off, electric fuel pump is fully actuated,

Removing  
– Remove engine cover panel ⇒ page 81 .  
– Unscrew bolts -arrows-.  
– Remove air filter housing ⇒ page 443 .  
– Unscrew bolt -arrow- on left and right.

– Unclip lower part of air duct -1- and remove it.  
– Remove noise insulation -1- ⇒ General body repairs, exteri‐  
or; Rep. gr. 66; Noise insulation; Assembly overview - noise  
insulation.  
– Free off coolant hose -3-.  
– Pull connector -1- off charge pressure sender -G31-.  
– Unscrew bolts -arrows-.  
– Loosen hose clip -2- of charge air hose, and pull charge air  
hose downwards off throttle valve module -GX3-.  
– Remove intake manifold support. To do this, unscrew secur‐  
ing nut -2- and bolt -3-.

– Remove rubber bush -1- for intake manifold support.  
– Release connector for fuel pressure sender -G247- -1- using  
assembly tool -T10118-.  
– Pull off connector -arrow- from alternator, otherwise the bit  
can be caught on the connector!  
– Loosen and unscrew fuel pressure sender -G247- -1- using  
bit 27 mm -T40218-.  
Installing  
– Lubricate sealing cone and thread of fuel pressure sender  
-G247- with clean engine oil.  
– Continue installation in reverse order of removal.

Note  
For this check, the fuel pressure sender -G247- must be re‐  
moved.  
Special tools and workshop equipment required  
♦ Pressure sensor tester -VAS 6394-  
♦ Adapter -VAS 6394/2-  
♦ Test adapter -VAS 5570-  
♦ Torque wrench -V.A.G 1331-  
♦ Vehicle diagnostic tester  
Procedure:  
– Remove engine cover panel ⇒ page 81 .  
CAUTION  
The fuel system is pressurised.  
Danger of injury through fuel spray.  
– Wear protective goggles.  
– Wear protective gloves.  
– To release pressure, wrap a clean cloth around the con‐  
nection and carefully loosen the connection.  
– Remove fuel pressure sender -G247- ⇒ page 460 .  
– Instead of fuel pressure sender -G247-, screw in adapter  
-VAS 6394/2- and tighten it to torque specified for fuel pres‐  
sure sender -G247-.  
– Open plug -2- of digital pressure gauge -VAS 6394/1-, screw  
previously removed fuel pressure sender -G247- into open‐  
ing, and tighten it to specified torque.

– Use test adapter -VAS 5570- to establish electrical connec‐  
tion between vehicle and fuel pressure sender -G247-.  
Note  
For the steps below, the engine must be started. Therefore,  
install the intake hose and the air filter housing.  
– Connect vehicle diagnostic tester.  
– Switch on ignition.  
– In self-diagnosis, select “Engine electronics”.  
– Select “Measured values”.  
– Select “Fuel pressure” from the list.  
Display field shows the actual value reported to the engine  
control unit by the fuel pressure sender -G247-.  
– Switch on digital pressure gauge -VAS 6394/1- by briefly  
pressing -A- button once.

Note  
When button -A- is pressed for 2 seconds, the illumination will  
be switched on for 20 seconds.  
Digital pressure gauge -VAS 6394/1- should display 0 bar; if  
this is not the case, press key -C- briefly once for zero point  
compensation.  
– Connect digital pressure gauge -VAS 6394/1- to adapter  
-VAS 6394/2-.  
– Start the engine.  
– Compare pressure displayed on digital pressure gauge -VAS  
6394/1- with actual value displayed on vehicle diagnostic  
tester.  
A maximum pressure deviation of 5 bar is permissible.  
– If the deviation is greater than 5 bar, test a new fuel pressure  
sender -G247-.  
CAUTION  
The fuel system is pressurised.  
Danger of injury through fuel spray.  
– Wear protective goggles.  
– Wear protective gloves.  
– To release pressure, wrap a clean cloth around the con‐  
nection and carefully loosen the connection.  
– Screw new fuel pressure sender -G247- into digital pressure  
gauge -VAS 6394/1-.  
– Repeat test with new fuel pressure sender -G247-, and com‐  
pare both measured values.  
If measured values again fail to correspond:  
– Check electrical wiring between fuel pressure sender -G247-  
and engine control unit ⇒ Current flow diagrams, Electrical  
fault finding and Fitting locations.  
If measured values correspond this time:  
– Install new fuel pressure sender -G247- ⇒ page 460 .

using vehicle diagnostic tester (Guided  
Functions)  
Note  
For this check, removal of the fuel pressure sender -G247-  
is not required. However, a vehicle diagnostic tester with the  
following functionality is required:

24 - Mixture preparation/injection  
G247 - Check fuel pressure sender

♦ Pressure gauge -VAS 6550-  
♦ ⇒ Vehicle diagnostic tester

CAUTION  
The fuel system is pressurised.  
Danger of injury through fuel spray.  
– Wear protective goggles.  
– Wear protective gloves.  
– To release pressure, wrap a clean cloth around the con‐  
nection and carefully loosen the connection.  
– Collect escaping fuel with a cleaning cloth.  
– Connect hose -VAS 6550/1- to connection -A- of pressure  
tester -VAS 6550-.  
– Connect hose -VAS 6550/1- to fuel supply line -1- leading to  
engine.  
– Connect hose -VAS 6550/2- to connection -B- of pressure  
tester -VAS 6550-.  
– Use hose -VAS 6550- to connect fuel line leading to fuel  
tank with pressure tester -VAS 6550/2-.  
– Ensure plug-in connectors are secure properly by pulling.  
– Ensure that drain tap -C- on pressure tester -1- is closed.  
– Shut-off valves -A- and -B- on pressure tester -1- are open.  
– Use ⇒ Vehicle diagnostic tester to check fuel pressure send‐  
er -G247-. To do this, select following function:

into fuel rail as far as stop.

Note  
If the elbow stud -2- breaks off, use long-nose pliers to pull the  
remaining piece out of the hose.  
Installing  
– Before installing, blow out hoses from pressure differential  
sender to emission control module with compressed air in  
direction of emission control module.  
– Fit elbow stud -2- onto pressure sensor -1-.  
– Moisten connection on pressure sensor and elbow stud with  
lubricant (water).  
– Fit pressure sensor with elbow stud -arrow- onto hoses.  
– Tighten pressure sensor, and connect connector.
