VW Tiguan 2021 Owner's Manual ➜ Change fuses

1. Observe the checklist and carry out the operations
described in it ÿ p. 315.
There are different versions of rear light
assemblies, hence the position and design of
the bulb holders and lamps may differ from those
shown in the figures.
2. Open the tailgate.
3. Open the hole in the boot side trim in the area of
the rear light unit in the direction of the arrow ÿ
fig. 218.
In the case of LED technology taillights, some
lights may be equipped with "conventional"
bulbs. These lamps can be changed.
4. Pull out the red lock ÿ fig. 218 1 of the connector
In necessary case,
and uncouple it 2 use a suita.ble tool to loosen
said red lock.
change fuses
5. Unlock the fixing screw ÿ fig. 218 3 counterclockwise.
Introduction to the topic
6. Release the rear light assembly from the body
back carefully.
Due to the fact that the vehicle is constantly being
developed, that the fuses are assigned depending on
the equipment and that one fuse can correspond to
several electrical consumers, at press time it had not
been possible to compile a complete overview with
the positions of the fuses.
More detailed information on the assignment of the
fuses can be requested from an appropriately
qualified specialist workshop. Volkswagen
recommends a Volkswagen dealer.
7. Remove the rear light assembly and place it on
a clean and smooth surface.
change the lamp
Perform the following operations only in the order
listed:
1. Turn the bulb holder anti-clockwise as far as it will
go and carefully pull it out of the rear light unit
together with the bulb.
A fuse can generally correspond to several electrical
consumers. In the same way, a consumer can
correspond to several fuses.
2. Replace the faulty lamp with a new one of the same
type.
Do not replace the fuses without first eliminating the
cause of the failure. If a fuse blows again shortly after
3. Place the bulb holder carefully in the
rear light assembly and turn it clockwise until it
engages.
replacing it, have the electrical system checked by a
qualified specialist workshop. Volkswagen recommends
a Volkswagen dealer.
Install the rear light group
Perform the following operations only in the order
listed:
WARNING
1. Place the rear light assembly in the hole of
the bodywork carefully.
The electrical system is under high voltage and can
cause electric shock, severe burns and death!
2. With one hand hold the rear light unit in the
mounting position and with the other hand screw
· Never touch the electrical wires of the ignition
system.
.
in the fixing screw ÿ fig. 218 3
· Avoid short circuits in the electrical system.
3. Check that the rear light group has
been mounted correctly and is well fixed.
WARNING
4. Fit the connector to the lamp holder and insert it
it.
Using improper or repaired fuses and bridging an
electrical circuit without fuses can cause fire and
serious injury.
5. Close the hole in the boot side trim in the area of
the rear light unit in the opposite direction of the
arrow.
Never mount fuses with a protection
lower.
6. Close the tailgate.
· Replace fuses only with ones of the same
amperage and size. Make sure that the color and
engraving are identical to those of the faulty fuse.
The figures show the rear left light group. The
housing of the rear right light group is
symmetrical.

Open the engine compartment fuse box
To prevent damage to the vehicle's electrical
system, always turn off the lights and always switch
off the ignition and all electrical consumers before
changing a fuse.
· When changing fuses, make sure that it is not possible
able to switch on the ignition.
WARNING
If a fuse is replaced by one with a higher amperage,
damage could occur elsewhere in the electrical
system.
WARNING
The presence of dirt and moisture in the fuse boxes
can cause damage to the electrical system.
· When open, protect the fuse boxes from dirt
and moisture.

To avoid vehicle damage:
· Carefully remove the covers or covers of the fuse
boxes and reassemble them correctly.
Disassemble
1. Open the front hood ÿ p. 331.
There are more fuses in the vehicle than
those listed in this chapter. These should only be
replaced by a specialized workshop qualified for it.

various situations
1. If necessary, remove the plastic clips from the fuse
box or the corresponding fuse box cover ÿ fig. 225
and the corresponding security measures ÿ p. 3.
4. 5.
.
1
· Please note that the battery supplying the current
must have the same voltage (12 volts) and
approximately the same capacity (printed on the
battery) as the discharged battery.
2. Depending on the type of fuse, grasp it by inserting
the corresponding side of the pliers from above or
from the side ÿ fig. 225.
3. Pull out the fuse.
· Never confuse the positive pole of the battery with the
negative pole or connect the jump leads incorrectly.
4. If the fuse has blown, replace it with a new one of
the same amperage rating (same color and
engraving) and the same size ÿ .
· Position the starter cables so that they never come
into contact with rotating parts in the engine
compartment.
5. After inserting the new fuse, if necessary return
it will fit the plastic clips into the cover.
6. Replace the cover or close the fuse box cover.
· Observe the instruction manual of the manufacturer
of the jumper cables.
· Observe the owner's manual of the vehicle that
provides the starting aid.
WARNING
If a fuse is replaced by one with a higher amperage,
damage could occur elsewhere in the electrical system.
WARNING
During starting aid, a highly explosive detonating gas
mixture forms in the 12-volt battery.
starting aid
· Always keep the 12-volt battery away from places
where sparks or flames are produced, open flames
or incandescent cigarettes.
Introduction to the topic
Never use a mobile phone when connecting
and disconnect the jumper cables.
For technical reasons it is not permitted to tow-start
the vehicle ÿ .
If the engine cannot be started because the 12-volt
battery is discharged, a 12-volt battery from another
vehicle can be used for this.
WARNING
When the 12-volt battery is discharged, it can freeze
at temperatures approaching 0°C (+32°F).
Suitable jumper cables are required for the starting aid.
· Never charge a 12 volt battery that is frozen or thawed.
The section of the starting cables must be:
— For vehicles with a gasoline engine: 25 mm2
As minimum
Always replace the 12 volt battery if it is
frozen or has been.
— For vehicles with a diesel engine: 35 mm2 co
minimum mo
WARNING
On vehicles with a 12-volt battery in the boot, connect
the jumper cables only to the starting aid sockets in
the engine compartment.
To avoid considerable damage to the vehicle's
electrical system, please note the following: · If the
jumper cables are connected incorrectly, a short circuit
may occur.
· Do not allow the vehicles to come into contact,
otherwise the current could begin to flow as soon as
the positive poles are connected.
WARNING
If the jumper cables are used improperly and the
jump start aid is used incorrectly, the 12 volt battery
could explode and cause serious injury. To reduce this
risk of explosion, please note the following: Before
doing any work on the battery, always read and heed
Use only jump leads with clamps
completely isolated.
