specifications of some of the factory-fitted headlamp
or taillight lamps may differ from those of conventional
lamps. The corresponding designation can be found
on the lamp base or on the glass bulb.
To change bulbs, always carry out the following
operations in the order indicated ΓΏ : 1. As far as
possible, place the vehicle on level, firm ground at
a reasonable distance from road traffic, taking
the necessary safety measures.

Β· Please note that halogen lamps are under
pressure and may explode when changed.
8. Wait for the exterior orientation lighting to switch
off ΓΏ p. 121.
9. Wait for the lamp in question to cool down.
10. Visually check for a blown fuse ΓΏ p. 318.
Β· Replace the lamp in question only when it
has cooled down completely.
Β· Never change a lamp if you are not familiar with
the necessary operations. If you are not sure
what to do, have the necessary work done by a
qualified specialist workshop. Volkswagen
recommends a Volkswagen dealer.
11. Replace the lamp in question by following the
instructions ΓΏ . Replace lamps only with new
ones of the same type. The corresponding
designation can be found on the lamp base or
on the glass bulb.
Β· Do not touch the bulb of the lamp with both
hands. The traces left by the fingers evaporate
with the heat given off by the lamp on and
βblindβ the reflector.
12. As a general rule, do not touch the vial blister
dry with fingers. The tracks left by the two of
them evaporate with the heat of the burning
lamp, are deposited on the reflector and reduce
the luminous intensity of the headlight.
Β· There are sharp parts in the housings of the
headlights and rear light clusters. When changing
lamps, protect your hands.
13. After changing the lamp, check that it works. If it
doesn't work, it may be because it is not mounted
correctly, the connector is not attached correctly,
or again a lamp failure.
WARNING
If, after changing a bulb, the rubber or plastic caps
are not fitted correctly into the headlight housing,
this could cause damage to the electrical system
(particularly if water gets inside).
14. Whenever you replace a lamp at the front of the
vehicle, have the headlight adjustment checked
by a qualified specialist workshop. Volkswagen
recommends a Volkswagen dealer.

Introduction to the topic
6. Release the rear light assembly from the body
back carefully.
Due to the fact that the vehicle is constantly being
developed, that the fuses are assigned depending on
the equipment and that one fuse can correspond to
several electrical consumers, at press time it had not
been possible to compile a complete overview with
the positions of the fuses.
More detailed information on the assignment of the
fuses can be requested from an appropriately
qualified specialist workshop. Volkswagen
recommends a Volkswagen dealer.
7. Remove the rear light assembly and place it on
a clean and smooth surface.

A fuse can generally correspond to several electrical
consumers. In the same way, a consumer can
correspond to several fuses.

4. Fit the connector to the lamp holder and insert it
it.
Using improper or repaired fuses and bridging an
electrical circuit without fuses can cause fire and
serious injury.
5. Close the hole in the boot side trim in the area of
the rear light unit in the opposite direction of the
