Problems and solutions
Window washer fluid level too low
Crack in the windshield: The impact of a stone
causes the windshield wipers to perform a wipe
cycle if the rain and light sensor is activated.
The sensor then detects that the sensitive

The window cleaner doesn't work.
If the window cleaner finds an obstacle on the

the driver can observe the vehicles behind and
adapt his driving behavior accordingly.
2. If the fault persists, go to a duly qualified
specialized workshop. Volkswagen recommends
a Volkswagen dealer.
For safe driving it is important that the driver
adjusts the exterior mirrors and the interior mirror
correctly before setting off.
Abnormal operation of the rain and light sensor
Some examples of possible causes of anomalies
and false interpretations in the area of the sensitive
surface ÿ p. 8 of the rain and light sensor:
When looking through the exterior mirrors and the
interior mirror, it is not possible to see the entire area
behind and to the sides of the vehicle. These areas
that are outside the visual field are called blind spots.
Other road users and objects may be in the blind spot.
Wiper blades in poor condition: The pre
The presence of a film or streaks of water due to
poor condition of the wiper blades can cause the
wiper operation to be prolonged, the wiping
intervals to be considerably shortened or the
wiping to become rapid and continuous.
WARNING
Adjusting the exterior mirrors and the interior
mirror while driving can distract the driver. This
can lead to accidents and serious injury.
Insects: The impact of mosquitoes on the
windshield can cause the wipers to start operating.
· Adjust the exterior mirrors and the interior mirror
only when the vehicle is in
had.
Traces of salt: In winter, the windscreen wipers

assistance.
WARNING
· Always make sure that the mirrors are adjusted
correctly and that visibility to the rear is not
reduced by ice, snow, fogging or objects.
If an automatic anti-glare rearview mirror breaks, electrolytic
fluid may leak out. This liquid attacks plastic surfaces.
· Clean it as soon as possible, e.g. eg with a sponge

using them to change lanes could cause accidents and

· Whenever possible, use the interior mirror to
accurately estimate the distance to vehicles

WARNING
Automatic anti-glare rear view mirrors contain an electrolytic
fluid that could leak out if the mirror breaks.
· If it leaks out, the electrolyte fluid may irritate the
skin, eyes and respiratory organs, especially in
the case of people with asthma or similar
diseases. Immediately inhale sufficient fresh air
and exit the vehicle or, if this is not possible,
open all windows and doors.

plenty of cold water for at least 15 minutes and
seek immediate medical attention.
If the liquid comes into contact with footwear
or clothing, rinse immediately with plenty of water for at

exterior mirrors
With the ignition on, the sensors measure the incidence of light
from behind ÿ fig. 112 1 and ahead 2
.
The interior mirror darkens automatically based on the measured
values.
When the incidence of light on the sensors is hindered or
interrupted, e.g. For example, due to a sun blind or hanging
objects, the automatic dimming interior mirror does not work or
does not work correctly. Also, the use of portable navigation
devices attached to the windshield or near the automatic dimming
interior mirror may affect the operation of the sensors ÿ .
The automatic anti-glare function is deactivated in some
situations, e.g. For example, when reverse gear is engaged.
