Front Assist detects driving situations using a radar sensor

located at the front of the vehicle. The range of this sensor is
approx. 120 m (400 ft).
Emergency braking assistant
(Front Assist)
WARNING
The intelligent technology of Front Assist cannot overcome the
limits imposed by physical laws and only works within the limits
of the system.
Introduction to the topic
Never let the increased comfort provided by Front Assist
induce you to take any risk that compromises safety. The
Front As sist cannot prevent accidents or serious injuries by
itself. The driver is always responsible for all driving tasks.
The emergency braking assistant (Front Assist) can
detect a risk of collision at the front and warn about it. In
addition, the system can assist in braking and cause
automatic braking.
· Always adapt the speed and the safety distance with respect
to the preceding vehicle depending on the visibility, weather,
road and traffic conditions.
Front Assist can help prevent accidents, but it cannot replace
the driver's attention.
· Please note that Front Assist cannot detect all objects in
the entire speed range ÿ p. 194.
Front Assist only works within the limitations of the system. The
timing of the warning varies depending on the traffic situation
and the behavior of the driver.
· If Front Assist issues a warning, brake the vehicle immediately
or drive around the obstacle, depending on traffic conditions.
functions
· Front Assist may intervene inopportunely, e.g. e.g., if its
functioning is impaired. Therefore, if necessary, consider
the possibility of interrupting the automatic interventions of
Front Assist.
Depending on equipment and country, the Front As syst
includes the following extended functions:
— Pedestrian detection system
The mentioned functions are automatically active (if equipped)
when Front Assist is activated.
· If you are unsure about the functions your vehicle is
equipped with, ask a suitably qualified specialist workshop
for information before setting off. Volkswagen recommends

Depending on the equipment and the country, the Front As
syst can detect the following objects:
- Vehicles
— Two-wheeled vehicles

— Pedestrians

The system will only intervene on the brakes as long as you

relevant factors
Limitations of Front Assist
Front Assist reacts to the mentioned objects and in a certain
speed range based on the following factors:
,
Please note on
page 193.
at the beginning of this chapter,
— Object type
— Direction of movement of the object
Immediately after starting the engine or after switching
the system back on, Front Assist is not available or
— Object speed
— Vehicle speed
only to a limited extent. During this time, the control
indicator lights up on the instrument panel display.
Therefore, the operating range may be limited if the vehicle
approaches an object very quickly and therefore there is little
time to react.
Front Assist has its own limitations and is subject to the
limits imposed by physical laws. Therefore, always be vigilant
and, if necessary, intervene!
Also, not all warning levels occur in all situations. Depending
on the speed, it does not take place, e.g. For example, a warning
or a severe warning, but directly automatic braking to best protect
the detected object.
delayed reaction
When the radar sensor is exposed to environmental conditions
that affect its performance, the system may detect this fact with
a delay. For this reason, any operating limitations that may exist
at the start of the journey and during the journey may be
displayed after a delay ÿ p. 193.
distance warning

hazard from driving too close to the vehicle

dente.
undetectable objects
The control indicator lights up. Increase the distance!
Front Assist cannot react, or may react with a delay, to the
following objects: — Vehicles driving outside the sensor zone at
notice
a short distance from your vehicle, e.g. eg, vehicles that circulate
misaligned or motorcycles.
Front Assist detects a possible collision and prepares
the vehicle for possible emergency braking.
— Vehicles changing into your lane a very short distance in
front of your vehicle.
An audible warning sounds and the red warning light
comes on. Brake or divert the trajectory!
— Vehicles with protruding accessories.
stern warning
— Vehicles traveling in the opposite direction or
intersect transversely.
If you do not react to the warning, the system can cause a
brief braking jerk to warn of the imminent danger of a collision.
Brake or divert the trajectory!
— Pedestrians who are stopped or moving in
Wrong Way. Without the pedestrian detection system, it
generally does not react to people.
automatic braking
— Cyclists who are stopped, approaching from the
opposite direction or crossing each other.
Front Assist can brake the vehicle automatically by progressively
increasing the braking force. By reducing speed, you can also
reduce the consequences of an accident.
— Pedestrians and cyclists not detected as such, e.g.
For example, because they are totally or partially covered.
brake assist
If Front Assist detects that you are not braking sufficiently in the
event of a collision, it may increase
