active regulation.
Introduction to the topic
1 The adaptive lane guidance function is
active.
2 Set distance, no vehicle detected
it ahead.
With the driving assistant (Travel Assist) and
within its limitations, the vehicle can maintain a
distance from the vehicle in front preselected by
the driver and remain in the preferred position
within the lane (adaptive lane guidance function).
Depending on the equipment, an indication also
appears on the Head-up-Display ÿ p. 32.
Depending on equipment, control indicators indicate
the status of the system on the instrument panel
display:
Active Travel Assist, adaptive cruise control
and adaptive lane guidance are active.
Travel Assist uses the same sensors as Adaptive
Cruise Control (ACC) and Lane Assist. For this reason,
please read the information on ACC and Lane Assist
carefully and note the limitations of the systems and the

Speed range Travel
Assist regulates at speeds between approx. 30 km/h
(approx. 20 mph) and approx. 210 km/h (approx. 130
mph); in the case of the adaptive lane guidance
function, between 0 km/h (0 mph) and approx. 250 km/
h (approx. 155 mph). This range may vary depending
on the country.
If you do not react to this request, the system warns you
by causing a brief jerk to brake.
In addition, depending on the equipment, it briefly
tightens your seat belt.
The Travel Assist is then deactivated.
Driving with Travel Assist
Depending on the equipment, the emergency assistant
(Emergency Assist) is activated instead.
Travel Assist automatically regulates the speed and
steers the vehicle. In addition, Travel Assist can, within
its limitations, slow the vehicle to a stop behind a
stopped vehicle and resume driving automatically.
WARNING
The intelligent technology of Travel Assist cannot
overcome the limits imposed by the laws of physics
and only works within the limits of the system. If Travel
Assist is used carelessly or inadvertently, accidents
and personal injury may result.
You can override the Travel Assist setting at any time.

Cruise Control (ACC) and Lane Assist.
,
Please note on
page 199.
at the beginning of this chapter,
· Always adapt your speed and distance from the vehicle in
front according to visibility, weather, road and traffic
conditions.
· Never use Travel Assist in poor visibility, on steep, curvy or
slippery sections (eg in the event of snow, ice, rain or loose
gravel), or on flooded roads.
· Never use the Travel Assist off-road or on roads that are not
firm ground. Travel Assist is intended for use on paved
roads only.
· The Travel Assist does not react to people or animals,
or to vehicles that cross or approach from the opposite
direction in the same lane.

emergency assistant
(Emergency Assist)
Travel Assist is not available or does not work as
expected
The assistant for emergencies (Emergency As sist) can
detect if there is inactivity on the part of the driver and
automatically keep the vehicle in its lane, as well as bring it
to a complete stop if necessary. In this way the system can
actively help to avoid an accident or to reduce its
consequences.
The control indicator lights up yellow. In addition, a message
to this effect appears on the instrument panel display.
— There is a fault in the sensors. Check the causes and
solutions described in the information on ACC ÿ p. 190 or
Lane Assist ÿ p. 198.
— There is a fault or defect. Shut off the engine and restart it.
— System limits are exceeded.
Emergency Assist uses the same sensors as Adaptive
Cruise Control (ACC) and Lane Assist syst. Therefore, please
read the information on ACC carefully ÿ p. 185 and Lane Assist
ÿ p. 196 and take into account the limitations of the systems and
the indications that appear there.
— If the problem persists, go to a duly qualified specialized
workshop. Volkswagen recommends a Volkswagen dealer.

instruments.
Take control of the direction
Depending on the equipment, the driver's seat belt is tightened
at the same time.
The warning light illuminates red, and a message is shown on
the instrument panel display. Depending on the situation, an
acoustic warning is emitted or the steering wheel vibrates.
System intervention
If the driver does not react, the system can brake the vehicle and
keep it in its lane. One of the following control lamps lights up in
the instrument cluster display:
You have let go of the steering wheel for quite some time, or
the limits of the system have been reached.
1. Immediately grab the steering wheel and take control of
the vehicle.
The system is regulating.
Travel Assist switches off automatically
You can override the regulation at any time by steering,
accelerating or braking.
Vehicles without emergency assistance (Emer gency Assist):
Shortly after the emergency assistant starts regulating actively,
the emergency flashers are switched on to warn other road users.
You've let go of the wheel for quite some time.
— There is a fault or defect. Shut off the engine and restart it.
