emergency assistant
(Emergency Assist)
Travel Assist is not available or does not work as
expected
The assistant for emergencies (Emergency As sist) can
detect if there is inactivity on the part of the driver and
automatically keep the vehicle in its lane, as well as bring it
to a complete stop if necessary. In this way the system can
actively help to avoid an accident or to reduce its
consequences.
The control indicator lights up yellow. In addition, a message
to this effect appears on the instrument panel display.
— There is a fault in the sensors. Check the causes and
solutions described in the information on ACC ÿ p. 190 or
Lane Assist ÿ p. 198.
— There is a fault or defect. Shut off the engine and restart it.
— System limits are exceeded.
Emergency Assist uses the same sensors as Adaptive
Cruise Control (ACC) and Lane Assist syst. Therefore, please
read the information on ACC carefully ÿ p. 185 and Lane Assist
ÿ p. 196 and take into account the limitations of the systems and
the indications that appear there.
— If the problem persists, go to a duly qualified specialized
workshop. Volkswagen recommends a Volkswagen dealer.

Driver intervention request
The warning light illuminates white, and a message is shown on
the instrument panel display.
If the emergency assistant detects that the driver is not carrying
out any activity, it prompts him to take control of the vehicle
through acoustic warnings and a brake jerk. In addition, a

instruments.
Take control of the direction
Depending on the equipment, the driver's seat belt is tightened
at the same time.
The warning light illuminates red, and a message is shown on
the instrument panel display. Depending on the situation, an
acoustic warning is emitted or the steering wheel vibrates.
System intervention
If the driver does not react, the system can brake the vehicle and
keep it in its lane. One of the following control lamps lights up in
the instrument cluster display:
You have let go of the steering wheel for quite some time, or
the limits of the system have been reached.
1. Immediately grab the steering wheel and take control of
the vehicle.
The system is regulating.
Travel Assist switches off automatically
You can override the regulation at any time by steering,
accelerating or braking.
— Vehicles without emergency assistance (Emer gency Assist):
Shortly after the emergency assistant starts regulating actively,
the emergency flashers are switched on to warn other road users.
You've let go of the wheel for quite some time.
— There is a fault or defect. Shut off the engine and restart it.

· Go to a duly qualified specialized workshop and request
a review of the system.

Volkswagen recommends a Volkswagen dealer.
Emergency assist is activated when the ignition is switched on if
the following requirements are met:
— Lane Departure Assist (Lane As

syst) and adaptive cruise control (ACC) are engaged.
(Side Assist)
— A forward gear ratio is engaged.
lante.
Introduction to the topic
— The system has detected a lane boundary line on both sides
of the vehicle.
Lane Change Assist (Side Assist) supports the driver
by recording the traffic situation behind the vehicle.
When Lane Departure Warning Assist is not available,
neither is Emergency Assist.
Radar sensors monitor the area behind the vehicle. The system
measures the distance and the difference in speed in relation to
other vehicles and informs the driver through optical signals in the
exterior mirrors.
WARNING
The intelligent technology of the emergency assistant
(Emergency Assist) cannot overcome the limits imposed by
physical laws and only works within the limits of the system.
The driver is always responsible for driving the vehicle.
System limitations
Use lane change assist only on paved roads.
· Always adapt the speed and the safety distance with respect
to the preceding vehicle depending on the visibility, weather,
road and traffic conditions.
Lane Change Assist cannot correctly interpret the traffic situation
in the following driving situations, among others: — On sharp
bends.
· The emergency attendant cannot always prevent accidents
and serious injuries by itself.
— In case of driving between two lanes.
If the radar sensor or camera is covered
— In case of lanes of different width.
or have been misadjusted or damaged, the system may
— In case of elevation changes.
intervene on the brakes or on the steering inopportunely.
— In case of adverse weather conditions.
— In case of special constructions on the margins, e.g. g., high
or misaligned guardrails.
· The emergency assistant does not react to people or animals,
or to vehicles that cross or approach from the opposite
direction in the same lane.
WARNING
WARNING
The intelligent technology of Lane Change Assist cannot
overcome the limits imposed by the laws of physics and only
works within the limits of the system. Never let the increased
comfort provided by Lane Change Assist induce you to take
any risk that compromises safety. If lane change assist is used
carelessly or inadvertently, accidents and serious injuries can
result. The system cannot replace the attention of the driver.
If the emergency assistant (Emergency Assist) intervenes
inappropriately, accidents and serious injuries can occur.
· If the vehicle behaves differently than expected, interrupt the
intervention of the emergency assistant by accelerating,
braking or moving the steering wheel.
· Switch off the Lane Departure Warning Assist (Lane Assist).
