4. If replenishment is necessary, mix clean water (not distilled)
with an appropriate glass cleaning product ΓΏ in the correct
proportion, as indicated on the packaging.
Β· Engine oil is toxic, always keep it out of the reach of children.
Β· Store engine oil only in its original tightly closed container.
Also keep this in mind with used oil until it is disposed of.
5. When the outside temperature is low, also add a special
antifreeze liquid so that the water cannot freeze ΓΏ .
Β· Continuous contact with engine oil
can damage the skin. Wash areas of skin that have

come into contact with oil thoroughly with soap and water.
Β· When the engine is running, engine oil is extremely hot and
can cause severe skin burns. Always wait for the engine
to cool down.
WARNING
Never mix coolant additives or similar unsuitable additives
with the windscreen washer fluid. Otherwise, an oily film may
form on the windscreen, making visibility considerably more
difficult.
Leaking or spilling engine oil can contaminate the
environment. If any operating fluid leaks out, please
collect it and dispose of it properly and in an environmentally
friendly manner.
WARNING
Never mix suitable cleaning products with others. Otherwise,
flocculation of the components could occur and clog the ejections.

Vehicles with engine oil sticker
If you have to add engine oil, use an oil that meets the
standard on the sticker ΓΏ fig. 238.
Introduction to the topic
Engine oils are adapted to the requirements of engines and
exhaust gas cleaning systems, as well as the quality of the fuel.
In all combustion engines, for technical design reasons, the oil
comes into contact with combustion residues and fuel, which
affects the aging of the oil. It is important for the function and life
of the engine to use the correct oil. The engine is supplied from
the factory with a special multigrade synthetic oil which can
generally be used all year round.
At the end of the chapter, in the troubleshooting section, you
will find information about warning and control lights that come on
ΓΏ p. 339.

The engine oil should be changed regularly. Please note the
service interval that applies to your vehicle. More detailed
information on service intervals can be found in the chapter
"Service" ΓΏ p. 380.
Changing the engine oil and filter requires special tools and
knowledge, and proper disposal of used oil is essential. For this
reason, always have the engine oil and filter changed by a
qualified specialist workshop. Volkswagen recommends a
Volkswagen dealer.

If this engine oil is used, you can correct the oil level as many
times as necessary ΓΏ p. 338.
Engine oil additives cause new oil to darken after a short engine
run time. This is normal and is not a reason to change the oil
more frequently.
Vehicles without engine oil sticker

your vehicle in a specialist workshop.
When in exceptional cases you have to change the engine oil
yourself, please note the following: Β· Always wear eye protection.
If you have to add engine oil, use that oil. If the prescribed
engine oil is used, you can correct the oil level as many times as
necessary ΓΏ p. 338.
If the prescribed engine oil is not available, in an emergency you
can add a maximum of 0.5 liters of oil of the following standards
until the next regular oil change:
Β· To avoid burns, always wait for the
engine cools down completely.
Keep your arms horizontal
when unscrewing the oil discharge screw by hand so that
oil cannot flow down them.
β€” Gasoline engines: VW 504 00 standard
and ACEA C3 or API SP, viscosity 0 W-30.
β€” MultiFuel engines: VW standard 502 00
and ACEA A3/B4, viscosity 5 W-40.
Β· To collect used oil, use a suitable container that has at least
the same capacity as the engine.
β€” Diesel engines: VW standard 507 00 and ACEA C3, vis
cosity 0 W-30.
Β· Never store engine oil in food cans, bottles or other empty
containers, as other people could mistake it.
Volkswagen recommends having the oil changed by a qualified
specialist workshop.
Volkswagen recommends going to a Volkswagen dealer for this.
Β· Engine oil is toxic and should be kept out of the reach of
children.
WARNING
Before changing engine oil, first find out where you can
properly dispose of used oil.
Volkswagen recommends using engine oils approved according
to the corresponding VW standard in each case. Using engine
oils that do not meet these quality requirements can cause engine
damage.
Always dispose of used oil in an environmentally
friendly manner. Never dispose of used oil in gardens
or forests, in the sewage network, on streets or roads, in rivers
or other types of water.
Volkswagen recommends original Volkswagen oil.

jo. If necessary, pay attention to the messages
displayed on the instrument panel display and
add engine oil.
Engine oil consumption can vary from engine to
engine and over the life of the engine.
Oil consumption can be up to 1 l (1 quart) per 2,000
km (1,200 mi) depending on driving style and the
conditions in which the vehicle is used. In the case
of new vehicles, during the first 5,000 km (3,100 mi)
this consumption can be even higher. For this
reason, the oil level should be checked regularly,
preferably when refueling and before going on long
journeys.
If the engine is subjected to great stress (eg,
taking long motorway journeys in summer or
crossing high mountain passes), the oil level should
be in the upper permissible range ΓΏ p. 338.

Check engine oil level and top up oil
Perform the following steps in the order listed
ΓΏ :
1. Park the vehicle with the engine at operating
temperature on a level surface to avoid
incorrect checking of the engine oil level.
Note and , at the beginnionngpoafgtehi3s3c1h,aapntder,,
on page 336.
2. Shut off the engine and wait at least 5 minutes
for the engine oil to return to the oil pan.
3. Open the front hood ΓΏ p. 334.
4. Locate the engine oil filler neck and oil dipstick.
You can recognize the filler neck by the symbol
on the cap ΓΏ fig. 241, and the measuring rod,
by its colored upper end ΓΏ fig. 240. If you are
not sure where the cap and dipstick are located,
go to an appropriately qualified specialist
workshop.
Volkswagen recommends a Volkswagen
dealer.
