Introduction to the topic
In the following situations it is recommended to
deactivate the passenger compartment monitoring
and the anti-tow system:
The tailgate is unlocked and locked together with
the doors.
— When people or animals remain inside the
vehicle.
On vehicles with the "Keyless Access" keyless entry
and start system, the tailgate unlocks automatically
when opened ÿ p. 78.
— When the vehicle has to be loaded onto another
means of transport.
If individual door opening or opening of one side of
the vehicle is activated in the opening and closing
settings of the infotainment system, the button on
the vehicle key must be pressed twice to unlock the
tailgate.
— When transporting the vehicle.
— When the vehicle has to be towed with a
suspended axle.
— When the vehicle is to be parked in a two-
storey garage space.
On vehicles with the "Keyless Access" system, the
sensor surface on the inside of the driver's or front
passenger's door handle must be actuated twice .
— When the vehicle has to be left in a car wash.
Risk of false alarms from interior monitoring
WARNING
The interior monitor will only work correctly if the
vehicle is completely closed.
Observe the legal provisions. A false alarm may
occur in the following situations:
Unlocking, opening or closing the tailgate
improperly or without paying due attention can
cause accidents and serious injuries.
· Open or close the tailgate only when there is no
one in the area of its travel.
— If any window or the glass roof is partially or
completely open.
— If light objects are left in the vehicle, e.g. eg,
loose or hanging papers in the interior mirror.
· After closing the tailgate, make sure that it has
been closed correctly. The tailgate should be
flush with the adjoining parts of the bodywork.
— If the vibrate function of a mobile phone that has
been left inside the vehicle is activated.
· Always keep the tailgate closed while driving.
It is not possible to permanently deactivate
the interior monitor and the anti-tow system.
· Never open the tailgate with cargo, such as
bicycles, attached to it. The gate could close
on its own due to the additional weight. If
necessary, secure the tailgate or remove the
load beforehand.
If, when activating the anti-theft alarm, a
door or the boot lid is still open, only the
alarm will be activated. The anti-tow system will
only activate once all the doors and the tailgate
have been closed.
· Close and lock the tailgate and all doors when
the vehicle is not in use. When doing so, make
sure that no one remains in the vehicle.
Depending on the equipment, when the
interior monitor and anti-tow system are
switched off, the "safe" security system is also
deactivated ÿ p. 84.
· Always keep a close eye on children when they
play in or next to the vehicle, especially if the
tailgate is open. Children could get into the
trunk, close the tailgate and be locked in.
Depending on the season of the year, a closed
vehicle can reach very high or very low
temperatures that can cause very serious
injuries and illnesses or even death, especially
to small children.

· When a luggage rack with its corresponding load is
mounted on the tailgate, it is not always possible to see
if the tailgate is unlocked. If the tailgate is not locked, it
could open unexpectedly while driving.
WARNING
If there is a lot of accumulated snow on the trunk lid or a
lot of cargo is mounted on it, the trunk lid could close by
itself due to the extra weight and cause serious injury.
· Never open the tailgate when there is a lot of snow on it
or when you are carrying cargo, e.g. e.g., in a luggage
rack.
· Before opening the gate, remove snow and debris.

WARNING
Do not close the tailgate by pressing your hand on the rear
window. The rear window could break and cause injury.
WARNING
Never use the opening mechanism to secure a load or to hold
on. This could cause damage that makes it impossible to close
the tailgate.

Open the trunk lid

Close the tailgate
1. Pull the tailgate, using the handle on its interior trim,

If the tailgate is open or not properly closed, it is indicated on the
instrument panel screen with a representation.

it is possible to unlock and open the tailgate by moving
one foot.

Resetting and storing the opening angle In order
for the tailgate to fully open again, the opening angle
must be reset and stored again.
Activate or deactivate the Easy Open function
The Easy Open function can be activated and
deactivated in the infotainment system:
1. Raise the gate by hand as far as it will go. You will
have to use a lot of force to do this.
1. Select the Vehicle menu .
2. Keep the key pressed ÿ fig. 72 located on the
tailgate until the hazard warning lights flash.
2. Select the Exterior submenu .
3. Swipe a finger from the side and turn the Easy Open
function on or off.
The opening angle is reset.

process is confirmed by an acoustic signal.

2. Scroll down the list and turn the Easy Open feature

If a valid vehicle key is found in the vicinity of the tailgate,
in some cases the Easy Close function may activate
unexpectedly and close the tailgate, e.g. eg if sweeping
under the rear bumper or carrying out maintenance or
repair work in this area. If it were to close unexpectedly,
the tailgate could injure people in its path and cause
property damage.

any object in its area, the closing process will be
interrupted automatically.
2. Quickly move your foot and lower leg out of the sensor
action zones.
If the vehicle is locked and the Easy Close
function is activated, the tailgate will lock automatically
after closing it. If the entire vehicle is unlocked and the Easy
Close function is activated, the tailgate will not automatically
lock after closing it.
The Easy Close function is activated for approx. 20
seconds. An acoustic signal confirms activation.
The tailgate closes as soon as all valid vehicle keys are
removed from the vicinity of the tailgate.
When closed, the tailgate locks automatically if the vehicle
has already been locked and there is no valid key inside.
The Easy Close function allows a maximum of one key to
remain inside the boot.
