WARNING
As far as possible, once every 6 months, do not
refuel until the control lamp indicating that refueling
is required comes on and refill the fuel tank. This is
necessary to ensure the operation of the system and
the quality of the fuel necessary for circulation on

Exhaust gases contain carbon monoxide, which
can cause unconsciousness and death.

· Do not leave the vehicle with the engine running
unattended.
7. Close the lid of the tank.
Notes on ethanol
WARNING
After refueling with a mixture of E85 and gasoline,
drive for at least 5 minutes so that the engine
management is optimally prepared for the current
mixture. During this time, oscillations in the engine
idle speed may occur. For this reason, during this
journey, avoid driving at high speed, high engine
speeds and full throttle.
The exhaust system components become
extremely hot and this can cause a fire.
· Park the vehicle so that no exhaust system
component comes into contact with easily
flammable materials that may be found under the
vehicle, such as dry grass.
WARNING
If the fuel tank is overfilled, the fuel could splash
and overflow. This could

start the engine again. The red warning light comes on.
If the AdBlue® expressly authorized by Volkswagen
according to ISO-22241-1 is not used or refilled, the
vehicle will not conform to the certificate of conformity issued
for this type of vehicle.
Warning and indication system in case of failure
Using the vehicle without the AdBlue® prescribed by
Volkswagen may be punishable.
If the exhaust gas purification system has a fault or has
been filled with AdBlue® that does not comply with the
ISO-22241-1 standard, the white or yellow control lamps
light up. When the yellow control lights come on,1a00r0ankgme of
remains.
If the exhaust gas cleaning system is not used as intended,
exhaust gas emissions may worsen.
Information regarding AdBlue®
If the yellow control lamps are ignored, the red warning
lamps light up. That gives a range of 0 km and it is not
possible to start the engine again.
The AdBlue® consumption depends on the driving style,
the operating temperature and the ambient temperature.
On the instrument panel screen you can check the
remaining range and the amount to be charged ÿ p. twenty.
ATTENTION
AdBlue® is an irritant and corrosive liquid that can cause
damage to the skin, eyes and respiratory organs if it
comes into contact with them.
Since AdBlue® freezes from -11 °C (+13 °F), if the
temperature is very low, there may be limitations when
refueling. The system is heated while driving to ensure
exhaust gas purification even at very low temperatures.
· Before using AdBlue® ,
observe the instructions for
use. If you follow the instructions for use correctly, it
is unlikely that you will come into contact with AdBlue® .
AdBlue® must be charged regardless of whether the
services are performed, as it may be required more frequently
or between service intervals.
· Store AdBlue® only in the tightly closed original
container. Never use empty food cans, bottles or other
containers.
Never allow the AdBlue® tank to empty completely ÿ p. 311.
· Always store AdBlue® in a safe place,
out of the reach of children.

of water for at least 15 minutes and, in case of
skin irritation, seek medical attention.

If the AdBlue® level is too low and the ignition is
switched off, it will no longer be possible to restart
the engine. Not using the start help either!
· Add enough AdBlue® when there is a range of
approx. 1000 km, at the latest.
· Never drain the AdBlue® tank completely .
WARNING
Incorrect handling of AdBlue® can cause damage
to the vehicle that is excluded from the legal
guarantee.
· Use only AdBlue® that complies with ISO
22241-1.
Fig. 209 Behind the fuel tank flap: Filling up AdBlue
with a refill bottle (schematic representation).
· Never mix AdBlue® with water, fuel,

· Do not carry the refill bottle permanently in the
vehicle. In the event of a leak, due to temperature
changes or damage to the bottle, the AdBlue®
could damage the interior of the vehicle.

Adding too much AdBlue® can damage the tank
system and the vehicle.
1. Unscrew the cap from the refill bottle.
2. Place the refill bottle in the AdBlue® filler neck
and screw it tight.

page 306.
There is a fault in a component relevant to exhaust
gases that can damage the vehicle.
Irregular engine operation and anomalies
1. Go to a properly specialized workshop
and have the engine and exhaust system
checked. Volkswagen recommends a
Volkswagen dealer.
If the engine does not rotate correctly or abnormalities
occur while driving, it could be due to poor fuel quality.
1. Immediately reduce speed.
Combustion failures
2. Go to the nearest duly quali fied specialized
workshop at an intermediate speed and avoiding
subjecting the engine to great efforts. Volkswagen
recommends a Volkswagen dealer.
The yellow control lamp flashes.
Misfires occur that can damage the vehicle.
1. Go to a properly specialized workshop
and have the engine and exhaust system
checked. Volkswagen recommends a
Volkswagen dealer.
3. If these symptoms appear right after refueling,
immediately turn off the engine to avoid possible
damage.
4. Request the help of specialized personnel.

other road users, accidents may occur.
The yellow control indicator lights up.
· Always adapt your speed and driving style to
the visibility, weather, road and traffic conditions.
The particulate filter is saturated with soot and needs
to be regenerated.
Requirement for the regeneration run: The engine is
